VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! CARPE DIEM!!! CARPE DIEM!!! CARPE DIEM!!!
The Biggest Loser: Calorie Knockout ****** Extreme Cardio For Maximum Burn This DVD features former contestants from The Biggest Loser show and I will start this review by expressing my respect to them. Seriously: Chapeau! Despite the considerable size of some of those candidates they have no problems keeping up with the pace, even though the workout demonstrated here can by no means be described as easy. Don’t be fooled assuming it’s a piece of cake because it’s for the overweight: it actually does require a decent level of fitness! Two of the participants perform the modified version of the exercises for the beginners, but overall I would say this is more of an intermediate gig, especially if you want to do the whole program and get the maximum benefit out of it. The DVD is divided into 5 parts: the warm-up, three 15-minute circuit routines and the cool- down. You can do the whole workout or mix and match the different segments depending on how much time and motivation you possess on any given day. You will need dumbbells for each of the circuits; how heavy they are again depends on you and your condition. So here is a quick look at what to expect: CIRCUIT 1 Instructor: Anna Kournikova Anna combines elements of kickboxing with strength training and intense bursts of cardio. Most of the time you exercise your arms and legs simultaneously.  A fun, dynamic workout targeting all major areas of the body. Additional bonus: every time you kick imagine it’s the butt of your archenemy you are aiming for! CIRCUIT 2 Instructor: Bob Harper Bob introduces different types of physical activity such as strength training, cardio and power yoga. Even if the moves themselves are not that hard, the number of repetitions and holding certain poses for what seems like a century will make those muscles burn with a vengeance! CIRCUIT 3 Instructor: Dolvett Quince Dolvett uses Tabata training to push you to your limit! He starts with demonstrating 3 different versions of the exercise in question for you to choose from. You perform whichever one you feel like at the moment for 20 seconds and then have 10 seconds to recover. Repeat 8 times, each time picking a different option from the available 3 versions. Then you move on to the next combo, three such routines altogether. It might sound a bit complicated, but in reality is very simple and extremely powerful. Routine 1: basic move <> squat Routine 2: basic move <> lunge Routine 3: basic move <> jumping jack Those three circuits create a varied, gratifying workout bound to do the job, however please be aware that it does mostly utilize classic, evergreen moves such as lounges and squats and might therefore not seem extremely innovative to some. However if done with proper dedication, it will make your heart pump and your muscles scream in agony. The training seems very well structured and I found it to be immensely effective (with the emphasis on my thighs, butt and legs, which I particularly am fond of torturing). It definitely makes time pass quickly, a quality I consider highly rewarding in such unpleasant ventures as exercising, bleh! I would definitely recommend this DVD to anybody serious about getting into shape. My only critical comment pertains to the fact that the participants do not always show the correct form while performing certain exercises, so it’s important to listen to the instructors to make sure you are doing it right rather than just blindly imitating the contestants.
