Leslie Sansone: 4 Fast Miles ****** All right, I admit that at first I was somewhat taken aback by the whole concept of this walk-out DVD. Leslie’s instructing style here seems very different to what I am normally used to: it’s kind of goofy, her demeanor extremely giggly, slightly strange and quite frankly a bit silly. She talks a lot of unrelated (exercise-wise) nonsense, laughs at things that aren’t even remotely THAT funny and plays with a James Brown doll. I know, right? However, to my great surprise, after a while I started to warm up to the woman: she won me over with her upbeat personality and contagious enthusiasm. Fine, at the risk of receiving some quizzical looks I will say that she actually managed to get me hooked and enjoy myself tremendously while doing this workout: it currently belongs to my favorites! Please don’t judge me… So let me describe what awaits you if you decide to give this product a shot. The whole routine takes about 48 minutes to complete and consists of a warm-up, low impact cardio, 5 intervals, low impact cardio again and a short cool down. The intervals utilize the idea of jolting your body into overdrive by short bursts of intense activity. Here 3 minutes of aerobic zone cardio are followed by 2 minutes of jogging and high energy exercises performed in a jogging mode. I would probably say that this DVD would be more suitable for persons at the intermediate or advanced fitness level; nevertheless if you are not there yet and can’t quite keep up at first, two people from the participating group demonstrate the beginner version, where all the exercises are executed at the much more relaxed walking pace. The problem with Leslie Sansone’s workouts is that they are all pretty similar. They do offer, of course, some variation, but all in all she does have a few of her preferred basic steps (such as knee-lifts, kicks or side-steps) and applies them over and over again. However, if you don’t mind this slightly monotonous approach or have never done any of her DVDs before, this is a truly great training tool! Simple, yet effective. In fact I find this training regime so easy to follow (no fancy footwork whatsoever), that I reserve it for the days when I feel like a brainless Bimbo and do not have the mental capacity to concentrate on following the right steps. You just sort of do this one automatically, but still derive the full benefits from the experience. Because in this case it’s not the elaborate moves that get you, it’s the tempo and intensity that will have you break into a healthy sweat. I personally modify a lot of the exercises to make them a little bit more difficult, thus creating an even more powerful training. Last but not least, I truly appreciated the fact that in this presentation Leslie invited her family and friends to walk with her: lovely, normal looking people. So you don’t have any of the Barbie-like perfect girls that inspire and motivate you on the good days, but make you want to crawl under the table or punch their smiling faces on the bad ones. The whole atmosphere is really relaxed and easy-going, you can sense that they all know and like each other. I personally found it rather refreshing, even endearing, and nowadays can’t help but smirk every time Leslie is teasing one of them (which is often, especially poor Jimmy gets a lot of attention). If you are looking for a workout that’s effective and high energy, yet simple and fun, this is definitely the one!                                              BUY ON AMAZON:           WATCH A CLIP:
