MASTRIONI’S ******       LOCATION: LAS VEGAS Website: http://www.mastrionis.com/ Mastrioni’s is a very classy and elegant (in an understated sort of way) Italian restaurant in Summerlin. It offers a full bar and an impressive wine list, even their “by the glass” wine selection is fairly decent. The interior is quite beautifully and romantically lit, the ambience cozy, especially if you manage to secure our favorite corner table :-). The waiters really impress with their polite and friendly treatment of the patrons, probably some of the most attentive and lovely service I ever encountered in Vegas. They always make sure that you are well taken care of and promptly refill your glass or bread- basket without being overbearing, which I find a very desirable quality. I would venture to guess that we all agree too much attention from your server is not always such a good thing. You know, along the lines of a permanently grinning waitress (do they have some kind of device in their mouth to make their lips turn into this ever-present sneer?), with absolutely no sense of timing, asking you if you need anything every two minutes, while you are actually trying to explain to your boyfriend, as kindly as possible, that as of now he should consider himself more of an ex? And then as he discreetly begins to weep, followed by some light wailing, she comes back to ask if the two of you would like to share some dessert? You know the one? The food can only be described as delicious, prepared with a lot of love and attention to detail. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Veal Marsala. I know, I know, only evil people eat veal. But in my defense I will say that I have it like twice a year, so I would consider myself just moderately evil, with some hope of redemption shining oh so brightly on the horizon. Seriously though, it is so tender it melts in your mouth and the sauce possesses exceptional flavor. Even though I normally try to stay away from traditional Italian fare such as spaghetti or ravioli, I have tasted a few bites from my dinner companions’ plates and they were just the right combination of excellent pasta and rich sauce. As far as the size of the servings is concerned, the pasta dishes come in quite enormous quantities, definitely enough to satisfy even the hungriest person. The other entrees are served in smaller portions and they come with one side. If you are starving, then you might want to order a more plentiful appetizer (I usually just get a salad) or an extra side. All in all a very enjoyable dining experience, a wonderful place to bring somebody you are trying to romance or simply with whom you are attempting to keep the romance going.  Either way, the atmosphere, food, wine and service should all contribute to creating and unforgettable evening and bring much success to your wooing endeavors.  And just for the record, if you are planning to make your current Love a thing of the past, this place might not be the best choice, as the whole romantic vibe can, ahem, send the wrong signals. Even without as much as a hint of the grinning waitress around…
