MIMI’S CAFÉ ******        LOCATION: LAS VEGAS Website: https://www.mimiscafe.com/ Mimi’s Café is trying to pose as an authentic French Café with traditional Gallic dishes. Well, I would say that they are not really as true to their origins as they should be, let’s just hint at the fact that there is a HEAVY American twist to their alleged Frenchness. We ordered the Petite Bistro Salad as starter, followed by Beef Bourguignon and the seared Mahi Mahi. Both dishes were surprisingly flavorless and blunt. The beef looked a lot better than it tasted, the fish failed to even appear appetizing and resembled more one steamed rather than seared. I don’t remember exactly what the other people in our party had, but I do recall they left half of their food on their plates, so it must have not been the height of yumminess. And if you consider the prices (which by no account were very low), you do end up getting poor quality for your money. The wine could probably be characterized as just on this side of drinkable. As far as the restaurant goes I can see how they were trying to go for that French Bistro vibe, but they did not quite succeed. The lights are too bright, the furniture too graceless and the ambience simply lacks that charming, hard to capture essence of a typical French eatery. The service was very friendly, but in the over-the-top way that I personally find annoying most of the time. We did have something really funny happen though and that incident made the visit to Mimi’s Café well worth our time. So here it goes: after we ordered the Beef Bourguignon (and pronounced the name the way it was meant to be spoken), the waitress saw it fit to actually correct us, creating a bizarre, never heard before word out of it. After she departed all aglow from a job well done, there followed an initial 30 seconds of mortified silence and then we all burst out laughing, shaking in convulsions for quite a while. So even though the culinary delights remained but a distant illusion, the entertainment factor almost made up for it :-). Needless to say the girl, bless her heart, got a rather substantial tip. We still laugh about it to this very day… Nonetheless I would not recommend this place and would not go back.
