MON AMI GABI ******          LOCATION: LAS VEGAS Website: http://www.monamigabi.com/home/?loc=vegas Located at the Paris Hotel and Casino, this restaurant is meant to bring a piece of France to the heart of Las Vegas. Even the walk to this establishment will already put you in a French inspired mood, as you will be able to feel the Paris atmosphere courtesy of the street experience created inside this Casino, complete with little cafes, old building facades and so on. The venue itself is rather large, dimly lit and decorated in the conservative and elegant style mostly consisting of a lot of dark brown wood, leather and crisp white table cloths. In my opinion it succeeded in conveying a very distinct French vibe, with brass pots hanging on the walls, black and white retro pictures, stained glass doors and numerous cozy corners. Let the subdued lighting not fool you though, this is definitely not a place for a romantic date or a heart-warming marriage proposal. Unless you want your future spouse to be yelling their answer at the top of their lungs several times before you know if they actually agreed to pick up your socks for the rest of their lives or opted against it. Mon Ami Gabi offers a rather loud, bustling and high-energy environment. Seriously, I would compare the level of noise to that in a busy bar. On the night we dined there they hosted several tables of 10-20 people and alone those produced some ear-splitting decibels. Also the portions served here appear to be much too generous to support a romantic outing, I would be inclined to characterize it more as a pig-out sort of eatery. Don’t get me wrong: the food is delicious (especially the hand- cut fries) and nicely served, but not the gourmet-style elegant little bites you would wish for when trying to impress your companion.  Or attempting to eat light in order to be fit for other prospective activities if the date goes well :-). As already mentioned, the servings are gigantic, so be sure to bring a good appetite. I considered the overall quality of the dishes very good (both my Filet Mignon and French Fries were delicious, ate every single one of them and am still carrying them embedded somewhere in my hips), but very straight-forward, almost simple. Not much refined surprise there, no fancy side veggies or moussed sauces.  But if you are in the mood for some crispy baguette, savory appetizer, a good honest piece of meat accompanied by some very skillfully made potato delicacies, then you will likely not be disappointed. If you are currently on a diet, however, I would avoid this venue as they really do not offer much nutritional choice for the figure conscious among us. Last but not least I wanted to add that the service was excellent, our waiter made a very friendly, helpful and cordial impression. All in all I would recommend this restaurant for those looking to be well fed, but not minding the upbeat atmosphere of the place and the hearty dishes, as well as for those who are fine to just go with the flow, chill out and not necessarily indulge in any deep, serene conversations.
