NITTAYA’S SECRET KITCHEN ******      LOCATION: LAS VEGAS Website: http://www.nittayassecretkitchen.com/ Located in Summerlin, this Thai restaurant is a true delight and one of my favorite places to go. If it wasn’t for the fact that I also have to review other venues (you probably would not appreciate having to read 10 consecutive evaluations of this establishment, no matter how cleverly phrased), I would most likely go there every week. Until they got so sick of me they would be forced to ban me and then scream in horror at the mere sight of my sad little face longingly pressed against their window. Here is why. Why I like the restaurant that is, not why I would be hugging the window. That should be rather obvious. But anyway. The décor itself already speaks of class and sophistication, but at the same time manages to make you feel welcome and relaxed. The chairs are made of soft cream leather (very comfortable); the tables are beautifully set and covered with crisp navy table cloth. The lights are kept dim, but not so dark that you would have trouble reading the menu; elegant lamps are scattered all throughout the room. Fresh flowers on the tables and on the sides only add to the overall romantic atmosphere. A great and unexpected touch consists in the artwork, which definitely belongs to the more modern and avant-garde category.  Robert Marlon’s paintings truly complement the design quite perfectly, creating a rather intriguing and eclectic contrast to the conservative style of the interior. A small bar with a brick wall behind it provides the idyllic retreat if you have to wait for your table or just want to have a drink. As far as I have noticed, this restaurant is only licensed for beer and wine, but they offer a very nice choice of both. On Thursday nights you can purchase bottles of wine at half price.  The music in the background serves as the perfect finishing touch, as it is both soft and soothing, very adequately encouraging you to consume your dinner and not tear off your clothes and start dancing on the tables. Well, let’s just say that I could tell you tales of meals accompanied by techno so vicious, that the mere recollection of the event gives me indigestion to this very day… The owner of the restaurant, Nittaya, seems to be very hands on and I have encountered her there on several occasions. Her culinary creations enchanted us with their diversity and original taste. Although we mostly enjoy the fact that she did not, like so many other ethnic eateries, choose to overly americanize her food: it still tastes fairly authentic. The sauces are fragrant, bursting with flavors and spices; the meat always splendidly prepared. Personally I especially love the seafood dishes and always order them as my appetizer from the Tapas Menu, particularly the Shrimp Satay and Seared Ahi Tuna represent to me the epitome of deliciousness. The beautiful presentation of the food would probably satisfy even the most discriminating aesthete, often it is even adorned with colorful flowers.  My friend actually eats them, but I am still slightly suspicious of consuming anything that can be stuck in a bouquet. With your main course you will receive heated plates to keep everything warm, just another example of the attention to detail practiced here. If you can’t make up your mind about which wine you prefer, they will bring you a couple of samples to taste. Generally at this point I must say that the service I have experienced there is nothing short of excellent, the waiting staff polite, friendly, cordial and refreshingly competent. While dining there I always feel like I am in good hands! In case you thought that I could not possibly top my laudation with any more exciting insights you needn’t have worried, I always have an ace up my sleeve (along with the  occasional tissues for runny nose, of course): you are namely able to enjoy this wonderful restaurant at a surprisingly reasonable price! Considering the standard you encounter here, Nittaya’s Secret Kitchen offers excellent value for money. My only negative remark about the whole experience could be perceived as a double –edged sword in a way. The rather small size of this establishment makes it appear really cozy and exclusive, however at the same time this does occur at the cost of privacy. The tables are placed relatively close together; therefore sometimes you might feel slightly deprived of your personal space. However, this never really proved to be a major issue and the positive aspects definitely outweigh this minor flaw. As you have probably concluded from my enthusiastic ramblings I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a place where the ambience, food and service all provide you with an equally satisfying feeling of fulfillment. And if you do decide to visit this fantastic venue I would strongly advise to make a reservation: their virtues have not gone unnoticed and the tables can fill up pretty quickly! If you neglect to book in advance, you might wind up standing outside, with your sad little face squished miserably against the glass, enviously staring at all the happy, eating people blessed with more foresight… With me right next to you, united in great window-pressing misfortune.
