VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! CARPE DIEM!!! CARPE DIEM!!! CARPE DIEM!!!
Whether you are pounding the treadmill, jogging outside or swinging the dumbbells, there is nothing quite as effective as some exhilarating music to energize and motivate you during your training. Even when we take ourselves to the point where no man has never gone before (or at least we’ll pretend that for the sake of making ourselves feel special and accomplished), that reinvigorating song will still manage to push you that extra mile, that additional circuit, that one more squat. And when the last notes die away and you try to lift your body from the floor just enough to crawl to the shower, once again you will feel triumphant in a job well done. Buns of steel, six-pack abs and all that jazz just around the corner, so close you can almost touch them. And even though in my case they somehow always manage to elude me, no matter what corner I tackle, I remain optimistic. These are my personal favorites in the all-engrossing quest for eternal fitness: 1. Paradise City: Guns N’Roses: This song has a great beat for running and, let’s face it, picturing Axl racing around the stage in those white tight shorts, still so young and perky (oh, where did the time go, *sigh*) also doesn’t do any harm. In addition the slightly aggressive vibe of the piece works wonders in getting rid of your aggressions and frustrations. Two birds with one stone: fabulously fit and resentment-free! 2. Set You Free: N-Trance Not only is this one of my most beloved clubbing songs ever, but it’s also quite excellent in keeping the energy up for any kind of physical activity. Uplifting and upbeat, it will definitely send the freedom fighter within you into spectacular new realms of exercising glory. 3. It’s Like That: Run DMC vs. Jason Nevins This piece has a kind of wicked, sassy energy that has made it my favorite for seems like eons now. When I feel my inner resolve fading and the treadmill becoming less attractive by the minute, I put it on and it usually succeeds in mobilizing my inner defiance against my inner laziness (as in inner in case you missed that). 4. Cry For You: September This empowering song has such a catchy refrain it’s impossible to keep your feet still. Every time I hear it I want to burst into a spontaneous dance, but in the interest of not freaking out fellow joggers I usually settle for a brisk run. 5. Are You Gonna Go My Way: Lenny Kravitz Another immortal rock hymn that never fails to get me off my butt and in fact inspires me to indulge in fitness shenanigans that I would normally highly frown upon. A truly electrifying piece that made music history and that never feels old or outdated. I am totally gonna go your way! 6. S&M: Rihanna Hot-blooded Rihanna definitely keeps your pulse up with both the music and the lyrics in this daring, saucy declaration of unconventional love. Think a pop version of “Fifty Shades of Grey” that will go a long way to help put a spring back in your step (and love life)! 7. Atencion: 666 & DJ Bonito This slightly psychedelic techno romp is the ideal high-energy song if you are running (or walking) out of steam. Its somewhat disturbing vibe and sound effects (like the alarm blaring throughout) work wonders to shock your reluctant system into startled obedience and squeeze out those last scraps of physical prowess. 8. I Like That: Static Revenger & Richard Vission featuring Luciana Featured on countless cat-walks, this sexy track is not only ideally suited to skinny models strutting their stuff, but also to add that extra sparkle of glamour and feel-good factor to your training routine. I find the beat simply irresistible and in combination with Luciana’s naughty-girl voice and the feisty lyrics this song will make you feel alluring and empowered even during a session of jumping jacks. 9. Insomnia: Faithless Another clubbing cult classic, Insomnia is one of those tracks capable of putting you in a state of trance and total liberation of any kind of inhibition. Works great when enjoyed with eyes closed (for dancing that is, maybe not so much for running). Definitely a song to greatly contribute to easing the sometimes unbearable and tiresome burden of exercising! 10. Come with Me: Puff Daddy ft. Jimmy Page This Godzilla movie track takes the legendary Led Zeppelin “Kashmir” theme to the next level, creating an exploding mixture of menacing monster power, utter destruction and heroic courage. In other words all the ingredients you need to successfully complete your training…
